The NitPickers played a 30 minute Showcase at Higher Grounds last night to a "Standing Room Only" crowd of enthusiastic music lovers and local Hallowell bar owners. Not only did they rock the house... but they got several gigs from it! You could see the toes a tappin' and heads a bobbin' around the room.
You can catch them next at The Wharf on Sunday, January 27th from 4-7pm. C'mon down and bring some friends... show your support to make this a regular gig!!
at last... Bluegrass in the Capital area!

The NitPickers have finished their demo... It's called "Warts and All" and can be found on this site by clicking the Music link to the left. They recorded traditional, original and newgrass tunes this time around to show off their varied repertoire. The seven tunes were recorded around a single microphone so it's the real deal. And it sounds pretty darn good... Give 'em a listen!
I also hear they may be performing in Hallowell soon... stay tuned for details.

Well our crimefighters are at it again... This time they decided the best way to sharpen the songs and work Rick, the new banjo player, in was to take some of the songs into the studio and lay them down live around a single mic... so, they will finally be getting some samples up on that music page... You should start seeing some of those posted in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!!
psst... There is a rumour of gigs on the horizon too!

The NitPickers are complete!! They have just welcomed a new banjo player to the band... His name is Rick Dale and he brings more than 30 years of banjo experience to the NitPickers. Formerly with North Fork out of Pennsylvania, Rick moved to the area about a year ago and has been looking for the right group to join. After a chance meeting in a Hallowell club, Rick came and jammed with the Pickers and what a fit! Rick also sings and writes. Look for his pic and bio here within a week or so. He will be joining the NitPickers in the studio in a few weeks and we all look forward to hearing the results... WELCOME RICK!

Those crazy bluegrassers were at it again this weekend. Just when we thought the bluegrass season was over, The NitPickers were asked to replace the recently deceased bluegrass band, "The Grassholes" at the Acres of Wildlife Bluegrass Festival in Steep Falls, Maine. The afternoon show was held inside because of a rain shower and it had a feel more like a rowdy barroom than a bluegrass festival. They moved back to the outside amphitheater for the evening show. Our pickin' pals appeared alongside The Hemingway Bros., The Saccarappa Boys and Muddy Marsh Ramblers and a wicked good time was had by all.

The NitPickers appeared on the main stage yesterday at The Paul Bunyan Bluegrass Festival in Bangor, Maine. They won a contest held Friday night among a number of other bands that were field pickin' around their evening campfires. A group of judges, including the festival promoter and the festival emcee among others, traveled around the festival and chose the best bands to appear on the mainstage on Saturday afternoon. The NitPickers were a hit!
